Fear Of Public Speaking

What Is Public Speaking Fear?

Did you know that, often, the top ranking fear among people is having to speak in public. As author Joe Barry Donagh put it, "people with this fear would rather lie in the casket at a funeral rather than give the eulogy."

For people who have a problem with public speaking, the associated panic attacks or general anxiety is often a source of severe worry much before the event actually occurs.

These fears need not necessarily crop up when you have to speak form the podium. Simple events such as an office meeting where one is expected to express views or opinions too is a nightmare.

The fear of public speaking and panic attacks in such cases centers on experiencing a panic attack while speaking.

The person in question fears being paralyzed by the anxiety and is hence unable to continue speaking. The person also imagines fleeing the situation and having to later make excuses for their abrupt departure.

Such fear of public speaking is a little different from the majority of people who fear public speaking because their fear tends to revolve around going blank while speaking in public or feeling uncomfortable under the spotlight of their coleagues and associates.

The fear of speaking in public is a problem for this group atoo, but they are usually unfamiliar with the panic attacks because they have most likely have not experienced one earlier.
